Paul was commissioned by Marr Grounds to make a work in the Spotted Gum forest at at Narra Bukulla, near Tanja, on the NSW South Coast. The result confuses micro with macro. All over this fallen giant there are microscopic versions of this deconstructive action. It’s just a matter of time before all the captured carbon is redistributed. Encountering such works in the Narra Bukulla forest invites a private and isolated way of thinking about our creative incursions into natural forms and spaces – leaving transitory traces of an individual’s need to make a mark, using only the materials in front of you. Now you see it, now you don’t.
But if you could climb inside, might you see something like this? Orafur Eliasson’s literal tunnel vision piece from 2002, now on show again at ZKM.

Paul Jamieson’s sculptures and Marr Grounds vision are just beautiful and your reading of them very succinct. Olafur Eliasson is one of the most liberating and fascinating artists of our time – if only the NGA could indulge our fantasy of a new OE work here in Canberra. Then surely truly inspirational work would be on show for all of Canberra to see.
